Tour: History and Art of Minneapolis

Sunday, March 22, 1-4:30 p.m.

Start the afternoon with a tour of the Mill City Museum which chronicles the flour milling industry that dominated world flour production for roughly a half-century and fueled the growth of Minneapolis, recognized across the nation and around the world as “Mill City.” Built within the ruins of a National Historic Landmark — the Washburn A Mill — the museum provides a multi-sensory, interactive journey. The story of flour milling — and its impact on Minneapolis, the nation and the world — comes to life through the eight-story Flour Tower and other hands-on exhibits.

Next stop is The Guthrie Theater, which opened in 1963 with a production of Hamlet directed by Sir Tyrone Guthrie. The tour includes a history of the theater and a “behind the scenes” backstage tour with a peek at a prop display, dressing room, costume shop and rehearsal shop. The exterior is a composition of metal and glass that evokes industrial forms, rendered in a modern way. The large circular form of the thrust theater echoes the area’s adjacent grain silos, while the towering rectangular structure of the proscenium theater is in harmony with nearby flour mills. A spectacular 53-meter cantilever swings out over the river front, a contemporary rendering of the equally spectacular silos around it.

The group will meet at the Convention Center Lobby D at 12:45 p.m. and the tour will leave promptly at 1 p.m.

This event is included in the companion full registration and other registrants can purchase as an upgrade.

Sunday, March 22, 4:30-6 p.m.

Enjoy a networking event with drinks and snacks while you stroll through the Expo Hall. The Welcome Reception is a great opportunity to network and explore the hall as the first day of the Expo comes to a close.

This event is free for all registered attendees, exhibitors and companions.

Tour: St. Paul's Notorious Past

Monday, March 23, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

As you enter St. Paul, a costumed gangster guide will hi-jack the motorcoach and take you on a gangster riding tour taking you back to an era when things were not always what they seemed.  St. Paul was more than a quiet, picturesque river town. Alvin "Creepy" Karpis once famously said, "If you were looking for a guy you hadn't seen in a few months, you usually thought of two places: prison or St. Paul."

Next on the tour is a stop at the Wabasha Street Caves. The "Caves" were dug in the early 1800s, which were first used for a mushroom-growing business, then later a nightclub and restaurant in the 1930s. You'll see other famous St. Paul sites such as Rice Park, Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, Mickey's Diner and The Fitzgerald Theater (home to Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion).

Lunch will be provided at Dixies followed by an afternoon stop at the St. Paul Cathedral and Capitol grounds.

The group will meet at the Convention Center Lobby D at 9:45 a.m. and the tour will leave promptly at 10 a.m.

This event is included in the companion full registration and other registrants can purchase as an upgrade.

President's Reception and Banquet

Tuesday, March 24, 5-8:30 p.m.

Delicious food, great conversation and recognition of outstanding industry leaders make this closing event at Exchange highly memorable. The event will include a networking reception, a short awards ceremony, followed by a gourmet meal and entertainment.

This event is included in the attendees and companion full registrations and can also be purchased as an upgrade for $110 to any other registration package. Register early and save! The upgrade price for this event goes up to $140 after Feb. 20, 2020.
